Distil Rupert Neve’s Definitive Sonic Legacy in Your Studio
The Rupert Neve Designs Shelford Channel represents the pinnacle of Rupert Neve's legendary console designs in a single-channel rackmount format. Engineered for demanding mixing engineers and commercial facilities, this 1U masterpiece consolidates over fifty years of analogue circuitry into a high-voltage studio workhorse. Integrating a Class-A transformer-gain preamplifier, three-band inductor equaliser, diode bridge compressor, and variable Silk saturation, it delivers unmatched depth and pristine clarity to any vocal or acoustic recording.
Unprecedented Headroom and Mid-Forward Boldness
At the front end is Rupert Neve’s first new transformer-gain Class-A mic preamp design in over forty years. Combining a custom-wound step-up input transformer with discrete Class-A circuitry, it yields up to 72 dB of gain with an exceptionally low noise floor. Operating on twice the voltage of vintage consoles, this topology delivers massive headroom and a bold, mid-focused character that immediately flatters your source material.
The Ultimate Analogue Toolkit with Stepped Precision
The signal path features a custom-tapped three-band inductor equaliser blending hallowed vintage tone with modern versatility. Its low-frequency band recreates the thick warmth of a 1064, while the proportional Q midrange brings vocals directly to the front of the mix. Following this is a heavily upgraded, 2254-inspired diode bridge compressor that adds harmonic saturation and weight, complete with a parallel Blend control to preserve transient punch.
Variable Transformer Tone and Dual-Tap Versatility
Driven by a custom RN2042 square-core transformer, the output stage features variable Silk Red and Blue saturation modes for rich second- and third-order harmonics. Silk Red adds a sparkly sheen to high frequencies, whereas Silk Blue enhances lower-frequency warmth. A dual-tap configuration provides a standard line output and a dedicated -6 dB output, allowing you to drive the Class-A output stage into its saturation sweet-spot without clipping your converters.
Main features:
- Class-A transformer-gain microphone preamplifier offering up to 72 dB of discrete, ultra-low-noise gain
- Custom-wound step-up input transformer that adds mid-forward boldness and harmonic richness directly at the input stage
- High-impedance direct input utilising the same high-fidelity topology as the industry-standard RNDI active DI box
- Passive loop-through jack on the front panel to simultaneously route dry DI signals to an amplifier
- Swept high-pass filter continuously adjustable from 20 Hz to 250 Hz with a musical 12 dB per octave slope
- Three-band custom-tapped inductor equaliser based on classic Rupert Neve console circuits like the 1064 and 1073
- Parametric midrange EQ with proportional Q and a switchable high Q setting for surgical frequency cuts or smooth musical boosts
- Low-frequency and high-frequency EQ bands switchable between shelf and peak modes for custom-tailored tonal shaping
- Vintage-style diode bridge compressor with stepped controls, six timing configurations, and a 30% speed-boosting Fast mode
- Wet/dry Blend control for seamless parallel compression, allowing you to combine uncompressed transients with thick, compressed body
- Custom-wound square-core output transformer featuring variable Silk Red and Silk Blue saturation modes with variable Texture control
- Dual-tap output stage providing a standard line-level output and a separate -6 dB output to prevent converter clipping when driving the transformer hard
- Internal high-pass filter sidechain routing to exclude heavy low-end from triggering the compressor detector
- Sidechain insert send and return jacks on the rear panel to enable advanced external spectral dynamics processing
- Built-in stereo link function to coordinate compression across a pair of units for mastering or bus processing
