The purpose of Rode's NTG-2 shotgun microphone is to deliver broadcast sound quality and satisfy professional applications needed within the film, video, television and production industries. The NTG-2 covers the full frequency response (from 20Hz – 20kHz) to low noise and audio transparency. In addition to the native 20Hz-20kHz frequency response a selectable high-pass filter at 80Hz is available, which will prevent low end noise such as air conditioners and traffic from being recorded.

Also, the shotgun microphone features a condenser capsule with a super-cardioid polar pattern, designed for close-source audio recording. The point-and-shoot design allows you to focus on a person or subject while they are close to the microphone.
The combination of the condenser capsule and low-handling noise results in optimised audio performance.

The NTG-2 started with NTG-1's model and incorporated a dual-power design to deliver maximum compatibility. Being powered via a AA (1.5V) battery or P48 phantom power which can be supplied by professional cameras, audio recorders and power supplies. The battery power option makes the NTG-2 ideal for scenarios where the camera does not supply phantom power such as DSLR video. This allows you to use the microphone with cameras that don’t have a Phantom Power source such as DSLRs.  Given its super low weight when without battery (161gm) the NTG-2 makes it an ideal boom microphone.
