Baxandall's Curve in EQing

Heritage Audio's SYMPH EQ is a master bus that will just melt your mixes into sweet-sounding highs and tight, natural lows. This stereo asymptotic shelving equalizer offers professional engineers an exciting update to classic Baxandall-style units, with features that make it an excellent EQ for the stereo bus, such as stepped controls for precise recall, M/S functionality, and a tone reminiscent of vintage British desks, thanks to the components and amplifiers utilized. If you want to add global polish to your stereo buss during the mixing process or for self-mastering, this is an exciting option to peruse.

Stereo Asymptotic EQ

The Symph EQ is a stereo asymptotic equalizer, in which the boost or cut amplitude of its shelf curves increases until the asymptotic value is reached. The Baxandall curve with its special, extended low- and high-end shape, offers a smooth and hi-fi way for high-end polish, low-end fullness, and overall mix control. The end result sounds tight, sweet, and natural, with exceptionally low phase deviation. It's this level of sonic transparency that makes the Symph EQ ideal for mastering duties.

M-S processing = Accuracy

Nothing comes close to M/S equalizing a mix. It allows the user to process the centre and the sides independently. The benefits of such processing are hard to believe. You can brighten your mix without making your vocals sound harsh, or even tighten the stereo-image’s bass content without making your bass or kick sound weak. This are just a few examples of the Symph EQ M/S power. The response of the Side high pass filter has been made elliptical as in the vintage disk cutters for precise frequency response.

Top-Shelf Components

The Symph EQ was built with top-shelf components. Carnhill input and output transformers ensure a robust, high-fidelity sound, while 73-type Class A output stages further minimize unwanted distortion. You also get balanced, ground-free I/O and gold-plated XLR jacks to ensure rock-solid connections.
